to make a sock cat:)

There was this pair of toe-socks in my sock drawer which I really loved but all the toes had holes in them. the rest of the pair of socks were in perfect condition. So I thought to myself, how could I possibly throw these out? I then remembered the cute sock animals I had recently seen on Etsy and this was how my version turned out:)
  1. Shave off any fluff with a disposable razor. Plan, cut and sew.
  2. Hand stitch and embroider on the face, ears and tummy. Sew on buttons for eyes. Stuff with any available stuffing, place a sand bag in the bottom and stitch the sock up.
  3. Tie a string with a bell around your kitty's neck and find him a nice spot in the house.

This kitty is called Mao and he was my mom's Christmas present... She loves cats!

Vintage Country Charm... mmm

Here are the photo's of the finished product as I promised. The first 20 are the babies of the range, there are two more sizes in the making and they will be just as yummy as these ones, if not more. If you like them so much that you just have to have one... they are R25 each and will be available at the Hemel&Aarde Village Market on Saturday.

I'm really happy with how these beauties turned out and my new brown cards are a lot more "flexible" than my old colourful cards... tell me what you think:)
Ps. Thanks to David for my awesome product photography<3

the things we do for love...

A few months ago my lovely friend, Adrienn, asked me to make her a few baby hats as she wanted to start taking baby photo's and needed props. I told her that I was swamped (it was over Christmas and we all know how crazy that time of the year can get) but I'll try. So I searched patterns on the net and being an owl-freak, I went with this one...
This is where I got the pattern Crochet in Color, and this is what Liz's version looks like<3
This is how mine turned out:)
...and this is how Adrienn's photo's came out:)
Adrienn is now specializing in Baby and Maternity photography and has named her business Baby tale, if you have babies and want awesome photo's taken of them, you can find her on facebook Baby Tale Photography .

making new stock...yay!

Here's a little taste of some of the lovelies that I'm busy making for Deja Vu and The Village Market at the Hemel&Aarde Village Centre.
These lovely brooches were inspired by the French theme at the Hemel&Aarde Village Market. I was going to make them in shade of blue with Toile de Jouy printed fabric. So when I set out to source my materials, I couldn't find any French-themed fabric.  I then decided to go through my stash of vintage fabrics and came across a piece of beautiful vintage sheeting that my Gran had given me a few years ago. This beautifully soft 100% cotton with it's dainty felt-flower design became the focal point of my new range of brooches... I call, Vintage Country Charm.

I will post some more photo's of the finished brooches soon.

Leia's Christmas Prezzy

This past Christmas, my brother and his family came to visit. My little niece, Leia, was facinated with my mom's wooden cat ornaments! She kept pointing at them, say "maow...maow...." and it got me thinking of what to make her for Christmas. So I found a crochet pattern for a doggy hat on the net and turned it into a cat, hehehehe!!! And this is how it turned out:)

 Leia say "maow..."
She looks soooo cute in her new hat<3

just wanted to share some...

Last year October I found these beauties on the Glossary. I'd seen them on the Mr. Price site and on Lucky Pony and fell in love with them! Only problem was, I couldn't find them at our local Mr. P and when I finally saw them in the Somerset West Mr. P, they didn't have my size. They also told me that they weren't going to get any more of them:(  So you can imagine my surprise when I found them on Glossary and in my size!!!
Yay for me!

the above photo is from the Glossary: blog shop

and now they're mine, hehehehehehe (wicked witch of the North laugh)

Thank you Lauren for sending me these even though you were on leave. I really appreciate it!

lots and lots of six-cornered crochet motives...

At the moment I am using every free minute to work on finishing this blanket. I used up all my bit of wool left over from old projects and it has resulted in a very Autumn-like garden. I must say it is taking so very long to crochet these motives together. I just can't wait to get to that final one so I can throw it over my couch:)

-it's got kind of a vintage feel to it, don't you think?-

Okey-dokey, off to work on this lovely project now:)

Finished at last...

It all started when I found a lost and abandoned crochet blanket at my friend Irma's shop, Matchbox. I took it home, washed it and worked in all the little loose ends. Then I noticed that this little granny square blanket was crochet together and not sewn and I've never done that before. So I decided to make my own version of this orphan-blanky. It took a while to figure it out but I did it!
(I can't seem to find my photo of the original blanket. I will take a new photo and post it soon)

As soon as I figured it out, it was a breeze! Now I started using the same method to assemble my box full of sextet-motives. Also my first try at that pattern.

Dave left last night for Cape Town to join the rest of the candidates at the Yuri Arcurs Boot Camp, he is so excited and nervous! I'm holding my thumbs and my toes and my breath for him. It's an amazing opportunity and after the Boot Camp, the chosen 15 participants undergo three years of training. So now I have a lot of time on my hands, being alone and all:(
Man, I miss him and it's only been one day....!

Happy New Year!!

A Happy Near Year to all my family, friends and readers! There are so many awesome new year's wishes doing the rounds this year... I just want to wish you all an amazingly fun, happy, creative and prosperous 2012! Hope you all return home safe after the holidays and that this year will be an unforgettable one! I searched the net for a fitting 'New Year's' image but then I thought I'd rather share an illustration from one of my all time favourite Art Nouveau artists, Alphonse Mucha...
