Outfit Love: My Very Own

Oh my! I don't wish to complain the whole time… It's just sooo difficult when there is sooooo much to complain about. For one, I couldn't publish my Outfit Love post yesterday nor today due to some rather  irritating technical problems regarding my Mac and the internet constantly quitting for no reason. Ever since we upgrade to Mountain Lion, I experienced some misbehaviour. I really hope we don't have one of those very rare Apple viruses. As soon as I can find the time to do a system clean-up, we'll upgrade to Mavericks, hopefully that will sort our problems out.

Back to a happier, prettier topic now… You have probably all seen my HMM post on Monday, well this outfit is all about that post. About three years ago, I started to really LOVE rose prints. I searched for rose prints everywhere (locally) but couldn't find anything! Then to make matters worse, the internet and my favourite magazines were covered in roses, rose prints…roses everywhere! Everywhere but here! Eventually, I found a really nice pair of rose print jeggings at our local PnP Clothing outlet but that was it… Two years ago I found a hand sewn vintage blouse at Hospice with the most beautiful rose print, then that was it! So on my trip to Pretoria last year I hit the jackpot when I walked into Metro  (one of my favourite fabric stores). They had so many rose printed fabrics, I didn't know how to choose. The worst part was that I could only take a few pieces, as I was flying back, don't you just hate that? So I decided to take half meters of fabric so I'd have more of a variety of prints…okay, I did sneak in some large pieces as well, I just couldn't resist! The first rose print item I made was The Rose Swift dress which featured in my Outfit Love post A Rose Garden. Without further a due, here is my ultimate favourite, my very own, very first, rose printed pencil skirt! 

-Oh happiness! This skirt was such an achievement for me! My next challenge will be to actually work from a pattern, I'v never done that before. So wish me luck! The amazing thing about this skirt is how the outfits just put themselves together. It goes with so many the clothes that I have, it's the perfect game-changer! To tell you the truth, I've been so lost in "myself", not knowing who I am anymore. And as I said in another post, I find myself liking too many styles it feels I got lost somewhere in a vast forrest. Though this might seem a bit shallow, this skirt has become a symbol, a first step to finding myself again. I'm so excited! If this skirt turned out so great, I can't imagine what the future will be like-

Outfit Love: Cloudy Greys

Oh wow! We've been having such mixed up weather, the it's hot then it's cold…rainy…sunny. Many mornings we'd wake up with it raining outside. Naturally, I would then put on warmer clothes as I get cold easily. By lunch time it's so hot that I end up taking off all my layers. This particular day was exactly like that.

-I couldn't believe my luck when I popped into the Pick 'n Pay Clothing store and found this totally dreamy bunny print shirt and in my size! I took it immediately! 

-The grey cardi is also from PnP, I bought it at the start of 2014 and have been wearing it every other day. I'm loving their clothes at the moment, it seems more inline with the style I'm into.

-My grey jeans I found at Ackermans, on sale, last year. I wear them a lot! They are just sooooo comfy.

-For the first time in ages, I found exactly the right pair of black boots. They are from Fashion Express, they just packed these babies out, so they are still available to purchase. I've been looking for excuses to wear them, everyday :P

     

-Above you can see the bunny print nicely, and also my statement necklace (Mr. Price). I bought the necklace on sale quite a while back but never had the right outfit to pair it with. This outfit really made friends in my cupboard over night and jumped out at me in the morning! 

-This adorable lazercut bunny brooch is from Hello Bebe, local creatives. Their accessories are vintage inspired and their packaging is just awesome!

30 Skirts in 30 Days: #5 the Perfect Bodycon

It's Friday! Today was slightly warmer, yay! I can't wait any longer.... I want to start wearing my Spring skirts now! So today I did, ha! Yes okay, I had goosebumps for most of the day but it was warmer than yesterday. I wore my all time favourite bodycon skirt, paired with this awesome knit-shirt with cut-out detail at the back.

 -this bodycon is from our local Pick'n'Pay clothing store. I bought it last year and have been wearing it every other day since. It the most comfortable skirt I own and it works well with leggings too (for colder weather). The care tag is printed on the inside of the skirt which means no scratchy tag! The composition of the fabric is 94% Cotton and 6% Lycra, soft, stretchy and even more comfort-

  -my awesome shirt is from Meltz, it's made of 95% Viscose and 5% Elastane. It's avery fine knit fabric and feels extra smooth and soft, almost silky. I love this back with it's cut out detail (don't mind the bra straps). It almost feels like I wearing my PJ's-

30 Days of Dresses: Dress #14

This is a quick one... I've been in pain all day. I need to take some pain killers and go sleep now. I did manage a smile for the photo though...

30 Days of Dresses: Dress #6

Shades of Grey and a tiny hint of red... I must say, it is getting much cooler now. I'll have to start wearing a bit more layers. This outfit was fine till about 5 pm, then I had to put something warmer on. What I love about this dress is that it is a great "between seasons" kind of a dress. The knit cotton fabric makes it warm enough for cool breeze of Autumn. The cold shoulders makes it cool enough for the heat of the midday sun, which (by the way) is still quite scorching.

So day 6 is done and I am really struggling not to put my jeans on in the mornings... This is a much bigger challenge than I thought! It has it's good points though. This challenge forces me to plan my wardrobe for the next day, it forces me to get creative because of the cooler weather and it forces me to wear the stuff I have in my closet. Not to get stuck on a hand full of items which have become my comfort zone.

30 Days of Dresses: Dress #5

For some reason this outfit reminded me of the 1920's. Don't quite know why, maybe the very fine polka dots on the dress or my polka dotted stockings... Anyway, this dress is made of Viscose, one of my favourite textiles. It's light and flowy and oh so comfortable. The colour scheme reminded me of the Autumns back in Pretoria where we used to live. All the trees would be covered in shades of red, orange and yellow, some even turn deep dark plum before throwing off their leaves. I do miss that, being able to see the seasons change... Here in our new town, Hermanus, in the Western Cape, we have winter rainfall. This means everything turns green, it's quite strange but nice in a way.

 -this dress is awesome, I have worn it many different ways and right through the year. Did you see my cute little Alice band with the bow? It was a gift from my father-in-law, I just love it! The bow is stuffed which makes it squishy-

-this lovely brooch(top) is from my Country Charm range. It's earthy and goes with almost everything. My awesome pumps (below) are so comfy and versatile, as you'll notice in my other post that I tend to wear them a lot-

Outfit Love: Peach and Polkadots

What a lovely sunny Tuesday! I'm so happy that I could get this outfit together at last! It was inspired by various pins over a period of about two years. I know, crazy right? It seems South Africa is always a couple of year behind when it comes to trends, technology etc. Then I might add that I collected these items over a period of 10 years. Even crazier!? I know, but if I find something I really love (and it lasts) I just cannot ever get rid of it.

• the awesome owly earrings, were a gift from my sister-in-law (Yuseon) when they visited from South Korea last year
• the cat-eye sunnies, I found at Mr.Price a year ago. they were on sale @R19.99

Outfit Love: Navy and White

When I go out shopping I don't buy specific brands, I buy what catches my eye and suites my needs. This means I get my stuff from interesting places, places that most people won't be caught dead in. If I think about it, I'm quite the opportunistic buyer. Somehow Navy& White have made their way into my closet. I should have seen it coming, though. When I just started studying Textile design back in 2004, my Grandmother (on my mom's side) gave me a navy flair skirt with white polka dots. She had worn in when she was much younger. Man, how I love that skirt! I still have it today, I don't wear it as much now because the elastic has disintegrated. Any hooo... ever since then little pieces of navy have sneaked into my closet and are slowly busy taking over.

Outfit Love: Floral Printed Jeggings

Although the weather has started turning, it still gets pretty chilly when the wind picks up. And now I see there's a cold front on it's way:(  I was so hoping to pack my winter stuff away.  Anyway, I walked past our local Pick'n'Pay Clothing store and there they were, calling to me! These Floral Printed Jeggings are both beautiful and comfortable. It's amazing how a "print" can bring life to an otherwise boring outfit! I had to stop myself from wearing them everyday, hehehe:)

-found this red wrap cardi at a thrift store in town, it Angora Rabbit hair! Oh-so soft and very warm, what a lucky find-
